Something I say all the time is, “I serve people who want to live their life's current passions”.
I feel the need to expand on “life’s current passions” and share a little bit more what I mean by this. I want to also challenge you to determine your life's current passion.
To best describe “life’s current passions” I want to share a video clip with you. I'm going to really date myself because with age comes wisdom, right?
You might know this movie from 1990, Pretty Woman. It's a classic, such a great movie and I want you to pay attention to the guy walking across the street. What’s he saying???
I just love that scene so much!
Have you thought about this before?
Why is it so important to know what your life's passion is?
When you know your life’s current passion, that is what can really help you to stay focused, help you to get moving, help you to pursue online business or be an exceptional VA.
There will be hard days as a virtual assistant or an online business owner. There will be days you just don't feel like doing it. You'll feel very blah. You might have days where you just feel like “languishing”, just kind of going through the motions, and you might feel overwhelmed and frustrated.
Learning new things can be very overwhelming. You might have days when you're stuck or there are challenges with a client or customer, and you might have days where you just think maybe a regular job would just be easier.
That's when you go back to your why, back to your life's current passions. You remind yourself why you pursue flexible work in online business. It’s so you can stay committed to your life's current passions.
I like to say current passions because they will probably change over time. You might have more than one passion too.
When I'm thinking about my ideal customers for the exceptional VA Pathway Program and online business owners, I imagine their life's passions might be being fully present with their children, being fully available as a parent, mom or dad. It's to have work be the third, fourth or fifth priority in your life instead of the first or second so that you can live your life's current passion around, work instead of work dictating life.
I also think about digital nomads, people who love to travel, and take their work with them. Maybe it’s a missionary who travels for mission work. I think about those people who love traveling but also need to make an income and to support their passion.
I also think about someone who's life's current passion is to support an elderly parent or family member and they need or want a flexible job that they can work around serving their family member.
For the last 20 years, my life's passion has been my family and my children. When I started as a virtual assistant, this was the reason why. I wanted to be available more. I actually heard God say to me “be more available” and that led me to pursue virtual assistant work. I wanted to be more available to my kids and still earn income for our family. We weren't at a place where I could just be a stay at home mom and not have an income. Plus, I wanted to earn an income and we needed an income.
My “life’s current passion” back then was to fulfill the dream I had to spend time with my kids when they were really little. I didn't want to miss anything. I wanted to have summers going to the pool and going on picnics and to the park. I wanted to be their primary caregiver and available to show them all the love that I wanted to give. I did not want to have FOMO, a fear of missing out, over school events either. I just wanted to be able to go and not have to ask off work or skip things because my work wouldn't allow me to go to those things. That was my life's passion.
Then as I got more into online business, it started to morph into a dream of location freedom which is a passion that I'm still pursuing because I dream of traveling the world and seeing all that God has created.
I still get to be available to my kids right now too. When they were in high school and looking for colleges, I got to be part of all of that and I got to help them with all of that. Now they're young adults and my online business work has supported my life's passion of being there for them, being available, all along the way.
Right now my current life’s passion is building Limitless Business Online into an online business. Why? It’s so I can have the benefits that I talk about all the time of location freedom, time freedom, and financial independence.
I have a passion and dream of traveling and working, going and living somewhere so I can live and work there for a big chunk of time like a month or a few weeks at a time. Being able to work anywhere I want is definitely a life passion of mine, a life dream. I also dream of paying off debt and helping other people do this too. These are some of the “why’s” that really drive me and motivate me.
My life’s passion is building my online business so that I can also help you live your life's current passions.
I’ve found it’s important to keep your life's current passions, your why, your dreams, top of mind especially on the hard days.
Write them down.
Write them down so you can go back and look and see “why am I doing what I'm doing”. There are hard days for everyone so it’s important to attach to your WHY every day and especially on the hard days.
I did this when I was a new virtual assistant. I wrote down why I was doing what I was doing, and I would revisit it when there were hard days. I would revisit it when I had those thoughts like “oh maybe I should just get a regular job”. I went back to why. Why am I doing this unique, flexible work that sometimes can be hard? All jobs are hard sometimes, right?
Practice Visualization
Think about the Olympics coming up. Those athletes are visualizing themselves in those races, in those competitions, and seeing themselves on the podium winning. That's what you want to do with your current life passions and your dreams.
What will it look like when you're an exceptional virtual assistant supporting an online business owner and living your life's current passions? Visualize yourself doing the work, and then also going and playing with the kids at the pool, or doing your work and taking your mom to a doctor's appointment.
What is your life's current passion? What will it be like as an online business owner, when you're living your life's passion and running your business?
I practice visualization every morning. I've heard it's best to do it when you first wake up so your subconscious mind and your conscious mind are kind of starting to intermingle. I'm not exactly sure about all the mind science behind it, but this is when I’m practicing my visualizations. Every morning when I wake up I visualize what it's like in my online business. It's really working to remind me why I'm doing what I'm doing.
I visualize my ideal customers, maybe you, like I mentioned I think about. I see them playing with their kids, traveling, and doing mission work. I visualize going to visit my kids wherever they are. They're young adults now and I visualize going to visit them without worrying about the expenses of going to visit. I visualize making debt payments and being debt free. I visualize getting on a plane to go live in Colorado or Connecticut or France or Sweden or New Zealand. 😀 All these places that I dream of seeing and going to live there for a little while, like maybe a month or so to work and experience those places.
Visualization is a great tool to help you keep your dreams, your life's current passions alive and front of mind to help you stay focused and motivated even on the hard days.
“Everybody’s gotta have a dream” ~Pretty Woman
Decide what it is for you, for now. What is that current passion that's going to help you to stay motivated? Write it down, visualize it.
When there are hard days in online business or as a virtual assistant, remember why you're doing what you're doing and it will all be worth it.
