What Sea Turtles Can Teach You About Growing Your Online Business

What in the world can we learn from sea turtles that would apply to our online businesses???

Recently I was in Hilton Head Island in South Carolina for a vacation, and I learned something I didn’t know before. Hilton Head Island is actually a major nesting and hatching ground for sea turtles!

If you’ve ever seen videos of little baby sea turtles making their way to the ocean, it is the sweetest thing. And it’s also kind of intense.

When those tiny turtles hatch, they’re exposed and vulnerable, and they have to make it to the ocean fast… or else they get eaten.

Almost immediately after they hatch, they start moving. There’s no pause. No rest period. No learning phase. They just get into what’s called a frenzy period, where they move continuously and urgently.

They don’t stop. They don’t think about it. They just go.

And when I was reminded of this, it made me think about how building a successful online business is a lot like being a sea turtle.

How Consistency Makes a Difference to Build Business Momentum

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “slow and steady wins the race.” I love that phrase. It reminds me of the story of the tortoise and the hare.

The hare sprinted, stopped, got distracted, and lost the race.

The tortoise just kept going, stayed focused, and won.

As an online business owner, we have to be like the sea turtle and the tortoise. Focused. Moving forward with steady action.

Now, does that mean it has to take a long time to reach your goals?

No. Of course not...

... but you do have to stay in action moving forward toward your goal.

And if your business isn’t growing as fast as you want, you might have to remind yourself: that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

You can take comfort knowing that eventually, you’ll win the race.

Here’s the key though: you have to stay in motion.

Those baby sea turtles don’t stop and second-guess themselves. They just move forward.

They don’t look around and think:

“Am I doing this right?”
“Should I try something different?”
“What are all the other little baby turtles doing?”

And I bet, as an online business owner, you have that instinct too.

But what happens?

You get overwhelmed with ideas.
You start something… then switch strategies.
Then question everything.
Then pause.

And that’s what actually slows everything down.

I’ve been there. And I see it over and over with clients.

So instead, what if you chose one direction… and stayed with it long enough to see results?

That’s how you build traction.

Now the question becomes—how do you stay consistent when there are so many distractions in online business?

Two things: support and systems.

Online business can feel lonely. And when you have a coach who holds your vision with you, you have support that allows you to grow with confidence and clarity.

And then there’s systems.

Technology, AI, software—these can all support you in staying consistent.

When you have things like a social scheduler, automations, and funnels running in the background, you don’t have to rely on motivation every day.

You just keep moving forward.

Like the sea turtle.
Like the tortoise.
