I call it a catch phrase, but maybe it's a mantra, a motto, or a mindset... Today I want to share with you a catch phrase that I say to myself all the time. I hope it will be helpful for you in your daily work, either as an online business owner or as a virtual assistant or someone who wants to work online and you're just exploring.
I've used this phrase all my life and just recently it's come back to the forefront of my mind as something that I say regularly. This is it:
My husband will tell you I have other catch phrases that I use from day to day and time to time, and most of them rhyme. They all kind of have a little catchy tune.
Find a way, make a way... Read on for a few points about this phrase and some examples:
When you work online, you can almost always find a way to make something work.
There's almost always a way. "Find a way, make a way."
Maybe you've heard something similar from someone like Marie Forleo, who I absolutely love and have learned from. Marie Forleo's book is called Everything Is Figureoutable. I love that book because it's so true... everything really is Figureoutable.
Find a way, make a way.
First example of how this phrase has played out in my life is from back in college, before I even really had this mindset or this mantra.
I remember I would be working on a project or I had a paper due. There was a really tight deadline and I can even visually remember being in my apartment and sitting at my desk or the house I lived in my sophomore year, and thinking "how in the world am I going to get this done? How in the world am I going to finish this project?"
I would sometimes think "there's no way. there's no way I'm going to finish this". And then you just do it, right? You just do.
I'd finish the project and I'd think "wow, there's always a way it works out. Somehow. Some way. You find a way, make a way".
I think back to when I had my children and recognize "find a way, make a way".
I had three babies in three years and that was a lot. There were some very hard days, for sure. People would sometimes ask me, "how do you do this"? And I would sometimes think, you just do what you have to do. You just you just do it.
Now I look back and I realize I was living the "find a way, make a way" mindset. You just find a way. Make a way and do what you have to do.
Maybe you've experienced having unexpected bills come up and you have to find a way make a way.
In finances, I see find a way, make a way, play out all the time. Bills come up, cars break down (we currently have two cars at the Mechanic!😒), and I've found there's always a way to make things work, to stretch the dollar. You can always find a way, make a way for a solution. It's always in there somewhere.
There have been many, many times when I didn't know how we would pay a bill or, how we would get by and here I am. We're still here. We're still chugging along, doing the best that we can by finding a way, making a way.
Final example is when you work online and you use software. It's what online business is built on, different software tools.
I have found in all the different software platforms that I have used over the last 12 years or more, that there's always find a way, make a way solutions.
When the software is not doing what you want or you can't get your landing page to look just right, there's always a way you can work around. This is a big area where I see "find a way, make a way" play out regularly, pretty much daily.
There's always a solution. For example, one time I was using a particular software platform to create an assessment, an exam, and I wanted the the platform to send emails to people when they complete the assessment. I thought I would be setting up that email in the assessment settings. Then I realized I needed more detail in the email than what was available through the assessment function. I wanted more capabilities for sending this email.
So I went a different route and set it up through the email campaigns and used a trigger to make the email send. I had to find a way, make a way to get the system to do what I wanted.
That's what you do in online business as a VA or an online business owner. That's what we do.
Maybe you're trying to create a landing page and you have a sign up form on the landing page and you want it to connect to your email service provider, but they don't naturally integrate, you find a way, make a way. There's always a way. You just have to find it.
That's what I really enjoy in online business is figuring out solutions because as Marie Forleo said "everything is figureoutable".
Sometimes people say "well, I don't naturally have that mindset. I don't naturally figure out puzzles and solutions in that way. So how can I do this?"
We're all born to be creative. It's in your DNA because we are all formed in God's image. He's creative. Look at a sunset. Look at a sunrise. God is creative and you are created in his image.
When you're stuck, reverse the mindset from "I'm so stuck. I don't know what I'm going to do, I'll never make it. I don't know how we're going to solve this problem" to find a way, make a way. Find a way, make a way.
Change your mindset to "We will figure it out. Everything is figureoutable" (thanks Marie Forleo!), and start brainstorming what comes to mind.
I'm a follower of Jesus and I know God will help me figure it out. Holy spirit guides and leads and will give ideas.
I remember when I first started in online business and I had left my office job. I left that job because I sensed God saying "be available" to my kids. I remember when I first left that job wondering how to make meal plans, how to do some of the homemaking type things that I envisioned doing.
All of a sudden resources would become available because I prayed about it and I asked God, okay, you said, be available. What do I need to change or do? Suddenly I had so many resources available. I would say, pray. It's a great way to talk to God and find a way, make a way through prayer.
If you find "find a way, make a way" doesn't come naturally to you or you're not able to find a way, make a way and you're really, truly stuck, then reach out to others.
Maybe you find a Facebook group? I'm in several groups for example, for the software I use for Limitless Business Online. There are lots of people asking for solutions there. I'm in Facebook groups for virtual assistants and online business owners, and we're all offering suggestions to help people find a way, make a way.
Maybe you ask a friend? I have a friend who also has an online business and we meet every week to support each other, and give each other ideas and suggestions on problems or challenges that we might be going through.
Reach out to a friend and get their input in what you might be able to do to find a way, make a way.
Maybe you get a mentor or join a program? This is my shameless plug that if you aren't able to figure out a solution to an online business problem or you want to work online and not sure how, call in for reinforcements. Send an "SOS".
For online business owners, I offer SOS sessions where we dive into systems, strategies, and operational support for your business.
I can audit what you have in place and give suggestions for what needs to be created, changed, or implemented.
I provide strategies for sales, marketing, or utilizing your software better, and can even implement those strategies for you if needed.
I can help you dial in project management and create SOPs so that people can come into your business and help quickly.
If you need an SOS session, I'm here for you.
If you want to work online and are looking for a way to live your life's current passion, I can help you become an exceptional virtual assistant with the program coming out this summer (2024).
There's one other way that you can cultivate "find a way, make a way" mindset.
The "find a way, make a way" mindset develops when you take action. Try something.
Again, a favorite mentor Marie Forleo, author of Everything is Figureoutable, says "clarity comes from action". Take action and and evaluate. Is it working? Or do you need to find a new way, make a new way?
Thank goodness for Google and YouTube, right? Those have both helped all of us to find a way, make a way. If you're working on your car or you're doing a project, there's most definitely somebody in the world who has found a way, made a way, and they've posted it on YouTube!😉 So use Google and YouTube when you need to as well.
I hope you'll adopt the mantra "find a way, make a way" in your life too.
Whatever problems or situations arise, just know you CAN find a way, make a way.
What are you working on right now where you need to "find a way, make a way"? Leave a comment and I'll be happy to chime in to try to help if I can! 👍
